Migrating Your Windows SharePoint Site From Version 2.0 to
3.0
|
|
|
Use the following instructions to
migrate your Windows SharePoint
site from version 2.0 to 3.0:
-
From within SharePoint Designer
go to File >
Open and enter the
fully qualified domain name of
your SharePoint site.
-
Once the site is open you will
need to back it up. Go to
Site >
Administration > Backup
site.
-
You will be given the option to
include any sub-sites you have.
-
The wizard will back up the
contents of your site to a
package; save the package to
your desktop. Once completed
you will receive a message
stating that the backup was
successful.
-
Create a CNAME record for the
new site.
-
By default your new SharePoint
site is built with a template
in place. SharePoint Designer
will not let you restore to
this top-level site where the
template exists. Instead, you
will need to create a sub-site
where you can restore your
site.
-
To create a sub-site go into
your new SharePoint site. Site
Settings > Manage
Sites and Workspaces >
Create. Fill in the
Title, Description and URL;
click Create.
-
Do not click Create when you
see the page below.
-
Once that sub-site is created
go back into SharePoint
Designer.
-
Go to Site >
Administration and
select “Restore Web
Site”.
-
Select the file that you
created in Step 4.
-
Once selected, the process will
restore your old SharePoint
site to the new location.
